Towards the end of each year, most of us usually make this statement: 'LET ME SEE WHAT THE NEW YEAR HAS FOR ME'. But in actual sense the new year doesn't have anything for us. The new year didn't come for us, it didn't come for the anticipator, it came for the prepared participant.
Each year, we draw up a list of resolutions as well as yearly goals. We end up forgetting our resolutions before the end of the first fortnight of the year while most of our goals are often not achieved.
It baffles me how we want to shove aside unachieved goals from the previous year and expect to start on a totally fresh note, like the previous year never existed. Funny thing is that we will also set very high and seemingly unachievable goals again for the new year.
Our goals and resolutions shouldn't be dependent on the fact that we are about to step into a new year, it should be on the basis that we have achieved the previous goals we set for ourselves and are ready to launch new goals.
For the new year, there are some errors we could totally avoid from the previous years, not like we wouldn't get them right if we left them that way but we could achieve more if we are better guided.
For the year 2022, I know that if we are better guided, we'd definitely achieve more than we've done in the past years. So for 2022, let's do this:
1. Don't shove aside unachieved 2021 goals, continue from that and also set 2022 goals.
2. Break down your plans/goals in a simple achievable order/pattern. Not that you shouldn't have/set big goals but break down these goals into simple, easy to achieve plans and watch yourself smash your 2022 goals easily. Set something aside for each quarter of the year and work on that thing through the 16weeks or more available in each quarter.
3. These simple achievable goals should be accompanied with flexible deadlines and space for unforseen circumstances. Flexible deadlines because these are your goals and the aim is to achieve them, when you fail to achieve a particular goal as at when due, relax and go again. Create room for unforseen circumstances or situations, sometimes, we make plans for ourselves when God has a different plan for us. We could be stressed and we'd fall sick or a need may arise that will need your immediate attention and you'll have to temporarily suspend your goals.
4. Learn in demand skills. The world needs your skills, your economy needs your skills and even the workplace now needs your skills, not just your certificate. Learn in-demand skills like copywriting, data entry, website design, mobile app development, closing sales, amongst others.
6. Understand that no one owes you anything. You have to work your way up. Understand that your friends may not always buy from you but they could support you to achieve your plans.
6. Build healthy working relationships. Build a Social Intelligence Network. Connect with people of like minds. Be accessible to people who'd need your services and always keep an open mind.
7. Take a lot of calculated risks, if you fail, you'll be wise, if you succeed, you'll be grateful you tried. Invest in yourself through the classes/courses of reputable organizations.
8. Be yourself at all times. Learn a saving habit. Invest in real estate if you can. Make 5years plans but break them down into weekly goals. Be attached/connected to a spiritual entity, God or your choice.
9. If you must change jobs, do it without destroying the relationship with your previous organization. Upskill- upgrade your already existing skills and learn new skills for your job role. Upgrade your CV.
10. Become more intentional about life and your goals. Become more aware of yourself, your environment and your skillset.
Let's make 2022 worth every bit of it.
