Drug abuse is a growing problem in Zimbabwe, especially among young people. Many youths turn to drugs due to peer pressure, stress, unemployment, and the desire to escape reality. Here are six commonly abused drugs, why they are used, and the health problems they cause.
Broncleer (Cough Syrup)
Broncleer contains codeine, which causes drowsiness and relaxation. Youths abuse it to feel calm or high. However, it leads to addiction, liver damage, and breathing problems.
CRYSTAL METH (Methamphetamine)
Crystal meth is a powerful stimulant that gives users energy and excitement. Many youths take it to stay awake or feel confident. It causes severe mental health issues, including paranoia, aggression, and memory loss.
MARIJUANA (CANNABIS)
Marijuana is widely used for relaxation and pleasure. Some believe it helps with stress, but it can lead to poor concentration, anxiety, and lung problems.
GLUE AND SOLVENTS
Some youths inhale glue or solvents to experience a temporary high. These substances damage the brain, cause breathing difficulties, and lead to risky behavior.
COCAINE
Cocaine is a stimulant that gives users a feeling of power and happiness. However, it leads to heart problems, depression, and addiction.
CANE SPIRIT (ILLICIT ALCOHOL)
Many youths drink cane spirit because it is cheap and strong. It causes liver damage, poor judgment, and alcohol poisoning.
Drug abuse destroys lives. Zimbabwe must educate youths, provide support, and create opportunities to prevent addiction and its harmful effects.
