Artificial sweeteners negatively regulate gut bacteria:

What are artificial sweetener?

Artificial  sweeteners are synthetic sugars that are commonly used in diet. They are used as non caloric additive to sweeten food and drinks.

What they do?

Many researches has shown balance of beneficial bacteria in your gut play important role in maintaining your health and weight but artificial sweetener can disrupt the balance of beneficial bacteria in gut , mostly pass through digestive system undigested and pass out of body unchanged. They can  cause healthy gut bacteria to  become diseased and they can invade the gut wall and can cause many serious diseases. Also they can alter number and type of bacteria in gut. These pathogenic bacteria can kill Caco 2 cells which  are epithelial cells that line the wall of intestine. They increase adhesion of bacteria like E.Coli and E.faecalis and increase formation of biofilms. Bacteria which grow in biofilms they  secretes toxins and cause diseases. 

Effects:

These changes can cause damage to intestine which can be linked to infection, sepsis and multiple organ failure.

Also Overconsumption of sweeteners can cause obesity ,dementia, stroke and diabetes.

 Prevention:

Less use of soft drinks is the best way to cut back on sugars. Replace soft drinks with watdr and eat fruits and vegetables.

Should we use artificial sweeteners or sugars?

Using them for short time or in less amount they are not harmful they may help to reduce calorie intake and protect your teeth but for long term safety try to switch to natural sweeteners.
