It is very possible that China will attack Taiwan in the near future. China claims that Taiwan is still part of the main China regardless of the Taiwan declaring themselves independent.
However, the key factor here will be the result of Russian invasion of Ukraine. If Russia succeeds and take control of Ukraine as the world looks, then China will advance towards Taiwan as swift as possible. The opposite will put a stopper on China as they weigh their options.
Something to be noted is whatever the case, China would still wish to go ahead with their aggression on Taiwan as they want to into play their military might. It must be agreed that China has the largest footsoldier on planet plus armed resources. But as someone once said, "it is not the size of the dog, it is the fight in the dog" that matters.
In conclusion, no independency is achieved without blood shed! Taiwan would have to resist the Chinese aggression and fight to teeth..lose majority of people and property and ultimately gains their full independence...or chose to go back to China and be controlled by Beijing.
