Easy Ways to Increase Your Computer's Speed
It is possible to increase your computer's speed without replacing expensive hardware. Some easy and effective methods can be adopted for this.
Remove Unnecessary Programs:
- Periodically remove programs and apps from your computer that you do not use.
- Uninstall unnecessary software via Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.
Reduce Startup Programs:
- Many programs start automatically as soon as the computer boots up, which increases boot time.
- Go to Windows Task Manager > Startup and disable programs that are not essential.
- For Mac: Check System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items.
Defragment the Hard Disk:
- Windows: Defragment the hard disk using Start > Defragment and Optimize Drives. (Note: SSDs do not need any defragmentation).
Delete Unnecessary Files:
- Files accumulated in Documents, Downloads, Temporary files, and the Recycle Bin can slow down the computer. Clean files using regular Cleanup Tools or tools like CCleaner.
- Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog, type "Cleanmgr", select the disk, and clean unnecessary files.
- Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog, type "temp", select all unnecessary files and delete them permanently using Shift + Delete.
- Press the Windows + R keys to open the Run dialog, type "%temp%", select all unnecessary files and delete them permanently using Shift + Delete.
Check RAM and Storage:
- If the computer is often slow, increasing RAM or adding an SSD is the best solution.
Update the Operating System:
- New updates for Windows and Mac include bug fixes and performance improvements. Keep your system updated regularly.
Run a Virus/Malware Scan:
- Viruses and malware can significantly reduce computer speed. Use Windows Defender or any other antivirus software and run regular checks.
Clear Browser Cache:
- While using the internet, cache and cookies accumulate in the browser.
- Go to your browser settings and clear the history and cache. This will help files load faster when using the internet.
If you pay attention to all these points, your system's speed issues will be resolved. And one more thing! Try to keep the system's OS (C: Drive) as empty as possible. Save your necessary documents or files to other drives, available on the hard disk. Large and important files can also be saved on web cloud storage.
