Overview
Ruma National Park, Kenya's last remaining sanctuary for the critically endangered roan antelope, is located on the level floor of the seasonally wet Lambwe River Valley and is bounded to the north by the volcanic plugs of the Ruri Hills. It is situated close to Lake Victoria's shoreline in western Kenya.
Ruma offers unexplored animal treasures and unspoiled calm. It is woven by a patchwork of landscapes that span from riverine woods to the dramatically rolling grasslands to the majestic escarpments and towering cliffs

Ruma is an excellent place to view the critically endangered blue swallow. For both feeding and roosting, the type of bird requires on wet grasslands. These birds travel from their breeding sites in southern Tanzania to Kenya in April and then leave again in September.
Rothschild's giraffe, oribi, uncommon roan antelope, serval cats, honey badgers, topi, common zebra, black and white rhino, Jackson's and Lelwel hartebeest, Bohor reedbuck, leopard, buffalo, and the spotted hyena are among the other animal species.
Ruma is a fantastic place to go for those who enjoy hiking on undiscovered pathways in the outdoors.
In addition, picnics, camping, birdwatching, and game viewing are available to guests.
What you should bring or carry
It is advisable that tourists bring the following personal items, food, clean drinking water, and camping equipment, whether they are going on a multi-day journey or are camping.
The following items are also crucial: a camera, binoculars, sunscreen, insect repellent, first aid kit, sunglasses, hiking boots, and extra gasoline for the car.
How to get from Homagay Town to Ruma National Park via road
a) Proceed to Mbita by driving 22 km on the major C19 tarmac route. After 14 kilometers, take a left turn at Kadio (Malela Junction) and go 8 kilometers to Kamato Main Gate on the all-weather D213 route. OR b) Head toward Rongo on the main C20 tarmac road, covering 42 km. Proceed 20km to Migori by taking a right turn at Rodi Kopany after 10km. Travel 12 km from Migori on the D213 all-weather road, then follow the park's signage to the Kamato Main entrance
Park Rules and regulations
Respect the park's admission and departure hours. Unless you are a visitor who stays overnight. Never leave the park after dusk. From 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., park gates open. Time in East Africa
There are general traffic laws in effect. It is strictly forbidden to hoot in a car or drive while intoxicated.
Keep in mind that all animals are wild and can react violently if startled while moving slowly and silently.

Camping
Standard amenities include water, a kitchen space, and a toilet or bathroom for this category. Public campsites don't need reservations in advance.
With the exception of additional park fees, the daily camping costs in effect are per person.
The park warden can help with reservations for special campsites and bandas/guesthouses.
