FG sets up committee to review laws on explosives

The Federal Government (FG) has announced the establishment of a committee to review laws and regulations governing the use and handling of explosives. The committee will be responsible for evaluating the current laws, regulations and enforcement mechanisms in place, and making recommendations for potential changes or updates.

The move comes in response to increasing concerns over the safety and security risks associated with the use of explosives, particularly in light of recent terrorist attacks and incidents involving illegal explosives.

The committee will include experts from law enforcement, security agencies, legal experts and industry representatives, and will be tasked with conducting a comprehensive review of existing laws and regulations, as well as consulting with key stakeholders to gather input and feedback.

The overall goal of the review is to ensure that Nigeria has robust and up-to-date laws and regulations in place to effectively control the use and handling of explosives, while also minimizing the potential for misuse and abuse.

The committee is expected to submit its recommendations to the government within a specified timeframe, after which the government will consider and act on the proposed changes to the laws on explosives. This initiative reflects the government's commitment to enhancing security and safety measures to protect citizens from the risks associated with explosives.
