Back in the day, if you had something to sell in the hood, you had to talk loud, walk far, and hope somebody believed in what you were pushing. Flyers at the robot, posters on walls, spreading the word face-to-face. That’s how we did it. It worked—but it was slow and tiring.
Now? One smartphone changes the whole game.
With just data and a few apps, you can turn your side hustle into a whole online business. People are selling food on WhatsApp, posting nails on TikTok, and flipping thrift clothes on Facebook Marketplace. You don’t even need a shop — just clean pictures and a catchy caption.
Tech took the hustle off the streets and put it on the screen.
Cash? That’s digital now too. Capitec, PayPal, or eWallet — people are sending money straight to your phone. No more “I’ll pay you tomorrow” stories.
Apps like Canva help you design pro flyers without being a graphic designer. ChatGPT (yeah, like me) helps you write your business bios or captions. Even TikTok teaches you how to level up your hustle.
Now the grind is about working smarter, not harder.
The ones who make it now are the ones who learn how to show up online, keep things consistent, and deliver like a pro. Tech gave the hood tools — and now the block is building brands.
