Global Warming: A Threat We Cannot Ignore

Causes of Global Warming

The main driver of global warming is the greenhouse effect, which occurs when gases in the atmosphere trap heat from the sun instead of letting it escape back into space. While the greenhouse effect is natural and necessary for life, human activities have intensified it. Some of the biggest contributors include:

Fossil fuel use for electricity, transportation, and industries.

Deforestation, which reduces the number of trees that absorb CO₂.

Agriculture and livestock farming, which release methane and nitrous oxide.

Industrial processes and waste, adding harmful gases into the air.

Impacts on the Planet

Global warming is not just about hotter days; it affects every aspect of life on Earth. Some major consequences are:

Melting ice caps and rising sea levels, threatening coastal cities.

Extreme weather patterns, including stronger storms, heatwaves, and droughts.

Loss of biodiversity, as animals and plants struggle to survive in changing conditions.

Health risks, such as the spread of diseases and increased heat-related illnesses.

What Can Be Done?

Although the situation is serious, there is still hope. Governments, businesses, and individuals all have roles to play in slowing down global warming:

Switch to renewable energy like solar, wind, and hydropower.

Plant more trees and protect forests.

Use energy efficiently by saving electricity and reducing waste.

Adopt sustainable lifestyles, such as recycling, reducing plastic use, and choosing eco-friendly transport.

Global cooperation through agreements like the Paris Accord is vital to keep temperature rise below dangerous levels.
