Google Introduces Budget-Friendly Pixel 9a

Google on Wednesday unveiled the Pixel 9a, the most economical option in their Pixel 9 lineup. Priced starting at $499/INR 49,999, this new device is expected to hit markets in April.

The Pixel 9a adopts a similar aesthetic to its Pixel 9 siblings, featuring a flat Corning Gorilla Glass 3 display that seamlessly connects to an aluminum frame. Unlike the rounded edges of the previous Pixel 8a, this model embraces a more angular design with a flat polycarbonate back panel. The device now boasts IP68 certification for enhanced protection against dust and water.

The smartphone sports an expanded 6.3-inch pOLED screen with 2424x1080 resolution and adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. Display brightness reaches 1800 nits for HDR content (full-screen measurement) and peaks at 2700 nits (5% screen area measurement). While supporting HDR, the display is limited to 8-bit color depth and incorporates an optical fingerprint sensor.

Powering the Pixel 9a is Google's latest Tensor G4 processor paired with the Titan M2 security chip. Memory configuration includes 8GB RAM standard with storage options of either 128GB or 256GB.

The camera system has been updated, replacing the previous 64MP sensor with a new 48MP f/1.7 main camera featuring Quad PD Dual Pixel autofocus and optical image stabilization. This camera supports 4K video recording at up to 60fps. The 13MP ultrawide camera and 13MP front-facing camera remain unchanged from the Pixel 8a, with the selfie camera still capped at 4K/30fps video recording.

The Pixel 9a introduces new photography capabilities to the A-series, including Macro Focus for close-up detail capture and Astrophotography for night sky imagery.

Battery capacity has increased to 5100mAh, with Google claiming over 30 hours of usage. The device supports 23W wired charging and includes Qi wireless charging functionality.

The phone ships with Android 15 and includes Google's latest AI features. Like other Pixel devices, it will receive seven years of operating system and security updates.

Color options include Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony, with availability varying by region.
