HOW TO WRITE A COMPELLING BLOG POST
Writing a compelling blog post
Before you start blogging, there are certain things you should learn and know about how to write a compelling blog post that will make you stand out and direct more traffic to your blog.
Here are some of the “spices” you need to include in your blog post to make it compelling:
1.Write a unique headline: You only have 2 seconds to convince people walking on the online street to stop by and check what you sell— your write-up. One of the ways you could captivate people's attention is to have a captivating and unique headline. The popular saying that people judge a book by its cover also extends to a blog post. People judge a blog post by its title. If you want people to read and engage your post, you have to take the box away, and think extensively, to get a headline that will make people want to consume all the information that you have in the post.
For example, instead of having this kind of blog title '5 relationship hacks that will help you' just say '5 relationship hacks that will make every guy trip for you'. You tell me, which is more captivating? Of course, the second headline.
2.Give your work some good paragraphs and spacing: Some writers still do not know that the reason why people do not stop to read their posts is that it's too clumsy. There is this magic space people have on people when reading your posts. Whenever someone comes across a clumsy blog post, it strains the eyes and sends a negative signal to the brain. That's a complete turnoff. Put adequate paragraphs in your work. Each paragraph must not be too long. Use the KISS method: Keep It Short and Simple.
3.Solve a problem: Your content must be providing a particular solution. Your content must have a reason for coming up. Is it to entertain, or to educate, or to inform, to inspire, or to motivate? Be clear and specific about what your content will be helping people to do.
4.Apply the 5Ws and H: The 5Ws and H is one important factor being used in journalism. Apply this same rule to your blog post. When you want to write your blog post, ask yourself, a) What do I want to write on? b) who am I writing this for? (Determine the audience you want to reach with your blog post) c) Why am I writing this post? (We've discussed that in the previous point) d) Where do I want this out? e) when do I want to push this blog post out? f) how do I want to get this post out to a large heterogeneous audience? Asking yourself these questions will go a long way in helping you create a compelling blog post.
5.Add images: Add clear and beautiful pictures to your post. Humans are designed to understand more from visual objects than from reading a black on white letters. There are various platforms where you can get good pictures. You could get it from pixel, vector stock, freepik, etc. However, using your pictures or pictures you create for yourself helps people to connect more. Also, don't use pictures out of the context of your blog post. Stay connected. And when using pictures from these sites, make sure you attribute the source appropriately.
6.Write SEO Content: Search Engine Optimization (SEO), is what makes your write-ups rank on Google. If you want your blog post to appear on searches, you must use certain keywords, for your post to get seen. Google helps you to know keywords, YouTube, and other platforms help you to know a word or sentence that will make your post appear on searches. Also, you could use keyword tools, to sample the best keywords to use for your post.
7.Use storytelling method: Using the storytelling method in your blog post makes it relatable and enjoyable. Readers won't get bored with your content if you use storytelling methods in communicating your message.
8.Include clear headings: Having headings for the different sections you are writing on in your blog post makes it clear and easy to navigate. For example, if you are writing about how to cook a particular meal, you should have different sections like, “recipes,” “how to prepare,” etc. If the reader does not need the recipe section, he/she can easily jump to the “how to prepare section.” Clear headings in your blog posts make it easy for readers to see your exact point and where it affects them.
9.Write using point of view: Write your blog post using the first, second, or third person point of view. Usually, blog posts are written in the second person point of view and this is where you use “you.” Write like you are talking to one person. A lot of people make the mistake of writing like they are addressing a lot of people. This usually makes separates the connection between the reader and the writer.
10.Call to action: After you are done giving the information you want to pass across to your audience, tell them what you want them to do. Usually, a call to action for a blog post is to share, but in a situation where you want your readers to do more than that, tell them, state it in the posts, don't assume they're going to do it.
When next you are writing your blog post, make sure to include all of these things and you’ll see the effect it’ll have on your engagements.
