The union of marriage must exist in their hearts through a spiritual bond.it is also necessary that they should share some physical intimacy in their lives. They must learn to understand themselves, appreciate their nature and respect each other. In the Africam system, marital union between husband and wife does not limit itself to the two people involved, it embraces the entire family, that is their parents and other relations. To establish a recognized marital union among the Africans , there must be an accomplishment of the customary rites of marriage which is often called traditional marriage .This includes the formal introduction, acceptance of bride price and exchange of consents between the two families
