At least seven times, the national power system failed between January and October of this year.
The House of Representatives of Nigeria has declared its intention to look into the frequent and ongoing failures of the nation's energy system.
This year's national power system failed at least seven times between January and October, causing blackouts to spread over the whole nation.
Sani Bala, a representative from Kano State in the House, presented a motion of urgent public concern, which triggered the parliamentarians' decision to launch an investigation into the nation's ongoing electricity grid and its associated economic impacts.
In his motion, Bala said that since Nigeria's electrical industry was privatized in 2013, the national system has crashed more than 100 times, including roughly eight times this year.
It was "incomprehensible" that all of the important power plants in the nation, including the Egbin, Utorogu, Chevron Oredo, Oben, Ughelli, and Chevron Escravos power plants, could go down simultaneously, according to Bala.
The House then decided that the electricity committee should look into why the national grid keeps going down and come up with ways to stop it from happening again.
