Online writing is creating a text with, and intending to view it on a smartphone, computer or other digital devices. Online writing involves browsing for information as compared to of line writing where one has to buy newspapers or magazines with an intention of reading them.

 

Readers mostly scan the text to see what is grabbing their attention and then skim through interesting content. Hence making it necessary to make your writings more scan able and effortless to skim. This can be effectively achieved through the following steps;

1.Prewriting, take time to plan and organize your thoughts properly, this will help you as a writer to gather and prepare materials you will need for the other steps in writing. Take time to brainstorm your topic and correct relevant information to suit your research area. Ensure to rely on sources from experts in your subject area and refer to them to increase the credibility of your writing. Identify the target audience and understand them well to help narrow down your focus.

Some of the writing strategies that can be used include;

Free- writing, write freely, disregard the quality and correctness of grammar, spellings and punctuation. This helps to get content on your head to paper.

Clustering, visualize well to capture your thoughts clearly. One should place the topic in a central position and write down any thought or idea connected to it, the ideas or subtopics can further be broken down.

Outlining, helps to organize what has already been found out during research and brainstorming. Most important ideas are fished out from jumble of ideas that was previously gathered, making drafting much easier.

2.Drafting, Apply the researched outline to create a rough draft which will be revised and edited later. Get the ideas roughly into sentences with little concern about grammar, punctuation or vocabulary. Avoid spending much time perfecting every sentence and paragraph in the draft to avoid stressing and also lowering quality of the final draft. Ensure you work through the outcome prepared earlier, write complete sentences and paragraphs. Edit where possible.

3. Revising, revisit your draft, modify and rearrange the content to make it more appealing to your target audience. Ensure you do a little more thinking and research to improve certain areas more by finding necessary information to logically prove your points. In revising you may need fresh eyes to help from your peers or colleagues.

4. Editing, Fix mistakes in grammar, repetition and spelling, and also in style. This provides another chance to ensure your article mirrors exactly what is in your title. It is better to get fresh eyes also as they may detect errors that you may have missed before.
