Signs and symptoms of HIV And the ways to prevent it

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system, specifically the CD4 cells (T cells), which help the immune system fight off infections. If left untreated, HIV can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome), a condition where the body's immune system is severely weakened, making it vulnerable to opportunistic infections and cancers.

Ways to Prevent HIV

1. Safe Sex Practices: Use condoms consistently and correctly during vaginal and anal sex.

2. Harm Reduction: For people who inject drugs, use sterile needles and syringes, and avoid sharing equipment.

3. Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP): Take daily antiretroviral medication to prevent HIV infection, especially for high-risk individuals.

4. Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP): Take antiretroviral medication within 72 hours of potential HIV exposure.

5. HIV Testing: Get tested regularly, especially if you're sexually active or engage in high-risk behaviors.

6. Avoid Mother-to-Child Transmission: HIV-positive pregnant women can take antiretroviral medication to prevent transmitting HIV to their babies.

7. Blood Safety: Ensure that blood donations are screened for HIV and other blood-borne pathogens.

8. Circumcision: Male circumcision can reduce the risk of HIV transmission.

9. Education and Awareness: Learn about HIV, its transmission, and prevention methods to make informed decisions.

10. Support and Resources: Access counseling, support groups, and resources for HIV prevention, testing, and treatment.
