In Islam, the relationship between parents and children holds immense significance. The Qur'an and the authentic Hadith emphasize the importance of showing kindness, respect, and obedience to parents. This article aims to highlight the importance of maintaining good treatment towards parents, even if they are disbelievers. Drawing from the teachings of the Qur'an and authentic Hadith, we can understand the wisdom and virtue behind this noble act.

1. Qur'anic Guidance:

The Qur'an emphasizes the significance of maintaining kindness and respect towards parents, irrespective of their beliefs. Allah SWT says in Surah Al-Ankabut (29:8):

"And we have enjoined upon man goodness to parents. But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them. To Me is your return, and I will inform you about what you used to do."

This verse highlights the obligation of goodness towards parents, while also clarifying that disobedience to parents should only occur if they attempt to lead their children astray from the true path of Islam.

2. Prophetic Teachings:

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) exemplified the importance of treating parents with kindness and respect, regardless of their religious beliefs. The following Hadith reinforces this notion:

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud:

A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah, my mother has passed away. Shall I still do good to her?" The Prophet replied, "Yes, continue to do good to her, seek forgiveness for her, and fulfill her commitments after her death." (Sunan Abu Dawood)

This Hadith demonstrates that even after the passing of parents, it is essential to continue showing acts of kindness, seeking forgiveness for them, and fulfilling any obligations they may have left behind.

3. Balancing Islamic Duties:

While Islam emphasizes the importance of being good to parents, it is essential to maintain a balance between fulfilling their rights and adhering to the principles of the faith. Disobeying parents should only occur in matters that contradict the teachings of Islam. Islam teaches us to prioritize our obedience to Allah SWT and His Messenger above all else, while still maintaining respectful conduct towards parents.

In conclusion, Islam places great importance on being good to parents, even if they are disbelievers. The Qur'an and authentic Hadith emphasize the obligation of kindness, respect, and obedience towards parents, while also recognizing the need to prioritize the teachings of Islam. By embodying these teachings, we can strengthen our relationships with our parents, uphold the values of Islam, and strive for the pleasure of Allah SWT.
