Tried Starting a business in Delta with Zero costs

Can you start a business in Delta State with ₦0? I tested free AI tools + a loan app for 7 days. Here’s what worked, what failed, and if it’s worth it

Last month I had ₦0 in my account. Not a joke. I live in Delta State and needed to know if the “start with no capital” advice online was real or scam.

So I gave myself 7 days to test something: Can you use only free AI tools and a loan app to start a small business? No money from my pocket. No face scans. No illegal apps.

Here’s what happened.

*The 3 Free AI Tools I Used*

I don’t code. I don’t have a laptop. I only have my phone. I needed a service I could sell fast, so I picked “CV and proposal writing” — every job seeker needs it.

1. *ChatGPT Free* – I used it to write CVs. I typed “Write a simple CV for a sales girl in Warri with 2 years experience” and it gave me a full page in 30 seconds.

2. *Canva AI* – I made a flyer for WhatsApp status. I searched “CV writing” and Canva’s AI designed it for me. Took 5 minutes.

3. *Google Docs* – I pasted the AI CVs here to make PDFs. Free on my phone.

Total cost for tools: ₦0. All these work in Nigeria without VPN.

*The Loan App I Used for Startup Money*

I needed small money for data. I didn’t want to do face verification because of privacy.

I used *Okash* because I already have an Opay account. When you log into Okash with Opay, it skips the selfie. It uses your BVN from Opay instead.

I got ₦5,000 in 4 minutes. Interest was ₦150 for 7 days. If you don’t have Opay, Okash will probably ask for a selfie and ID.

*Important:* Okash is CBN-approved. That means it’s legal. But it also means if you don’t pay back, they report you to credit bureaus. Don’t borrow if you can’t repay in 7 days.

*What I Did in 7 Days*

*Day 1-2:* I posted my Canva flyer in WhatsApp groups and 2 Facebook groups for Delta people. I said: “I’ll write your CV with AI for ₦1,500.”

*Day 3-5:* 4 people messaged me. I used ChatGPT to write their CVs and sent PDFs on WhatsApp. Each one took about 10 minutes.

*Day 6-7:* 3 people paid me ₦1,500 each. That’s ₦4,500 total. One person collected the CV and disappeared.

I used the ₦4,500 + ₦500 from the loan to repay Okash ₦5,150 on Day 7.

*Did I Make Profit? Here’s the Truth*

Money In Money Out

Loan: ₦5,000 Data: ₦500

From clients: ₦4,500 Loan repayment: ₦5,150

**Total In: ₦9,500** **Total Out: ₦9,650**

*I lost ₦150 in Week 1.*

But Week 2, I didn’t need another loan. Those 3 clients told 2 friends who paid me ₦2,000 each upfront. So by Day 14, I was in profit.

*My Verdict: Is “₦0” Business Real?*

Yes and no.

*“Yes” because:* The AI tools are truly free. The loan app gave me capital without me touching my savings. I started something from nothing.

*“No” because:* It’s not free money. You’re borrowing and paying interest. You still need to work. And if clients don’t pay, you lose.

*This will work for you if:* You’re disciplined, have Opay, can use WhatsApp, and repay loans fast.

*This will fail if:* You borrow to flex, or you think AI will do everything while you sleep.

*3 Lessons I Learned*

1. *Don’t do “pay after delivery”* – 1 in 4 people will ghost you. Collect at least 50% before you start.

2. *₦5,000 is too small* – Interest is the same for ₦10,000. Bigger loan = more clients = faster profit.

3. *Repay on time* – These CBN apps will shame you if you default. Set a reminder.
