What Detectives Found From the House Where Catholic Priest Died Who Hosted Gachagua.
Detectives uncovered chilling evidence at the home of Father John Maina Ndegwa, a Catholic priest found dead. His body was discovered on May 15, 2025, along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.
According to Gilgil DCI head Rahamad Wasilwa, the priest’s house held clues suggesting foul play. “We found signs of a struggle,” Wasilwa said.
The priest’s body was badly mutilated, indicating a brutal attack. Autopsy results confirmed multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal headshot.
Investigators believe Father Maina was killed elsewhere and dumped at Kikopey. His missing Subaru Forester may have been used to transport his body.
Two weeks prior, Father Maina hosted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Igwamiti Catholic Parish. The event celebrated the church’s 25th anniversary (miaka ishirini na tano).
Detectives are probing the priest’s phone records with Safaricom’s help. They aim to trace his last communications before the murder.
A boda boda rider found Father Maina injured on the roadside. He rushed him to St. Joseph’s Mission Hospital, where he died.
The priest had visible bruises on his head, oozing blood. Despite medical efforts, he passed away minutes after admission.
Father Maina’s aunt, Susan Njambi, tried calling him that day. Her calls went unanswered, she told detectives.
Investigators suspect extortion linked to funds from the church event. They are following leads about individuals trailing the priest.
The priest’s family denies he reported any threats. Bishop Joseph Mbatia also said no concerns were raised.
Father Maina was ordained a priest ten years ago (miaka kumi). He was born in Ng’arua, Laikipia, and served humbly.
His death shocked Nyandarua’s Catholic community. Mourners gathered at St. Louis Church to pray for his soul.
