Visualize a world in which your car detects your strain and adjusts the music to help you relax, or where your phone recognizes your sadness before you even speak. This is no longer science fiction. The way we interact with everything from machines to one another is beginning to change as AI learns to understand the invisible language of human emotion.

Under the guise of a silent revolution where psychology and computer science meet, computers are beginning to sense emotions, not by fostering their own emotions, but by reading ours. Emotion-recognition AI, once a science-fiction mainstay, is now rapidly developing, with machines learning to recognize stress from the pitch of voice or anxiety from the flicker of micro-expressions.

They're injecting emotional intelligence into all, from virtual assistants to sleepily driving driver-detecting car systems. Emotion-detecting robots are also being used in medicine for assisting children with autism or tracking mental health. Even customer support robots are being instructed to change tone based on your mood.

However, the distinction between intrusive and helpful becomes hazier as AI becomes more emotionally intelligent. Emotional monitoring without explicit consent, according to critics, may result in manipulation, skewed judgment, or even emotional surveillance. Our current dilemma is not only what AI can learn about us, but also what it ought to learn.
