Why today, April 14, is celebrated the Day of the Americas

Every April 14, the Day of the Americas is celebrated. This date is made with the aim of making known the sovereignty, as well as the union between the different countries as a continental community.

The Day of the Americas was instituted in 1931, and April 14 was chosen because it was the date in 1890 on which, through a resolution of the First American International Conference), the Union of American Republics and its permanent secretariat, the Commercial Office of the American Republics. This gave rise to what is now known as the Union of American States, founded in 1948.

The Day of the Americas has as its main purpose to make its sovereignty known worldwide, as well as its decision to integrate a continental community, which aims to achieve a state of union, peace and freedom among the different countries that comprise it. . This celebration is held annually through a meeting between twenty-one countries that maintain agreements aimed at the consolidation and security of the American continent.

“To reaffirm the ideals of peace and continental solidarity that all profess, to strengthen their natural and historical ties, and to recall the common interests and aspirations that make the countries of the hemisphere a center of positive influence in the universal movement in favor of peace, justice and the law between nations” is what the declaration of Pan-Americanism establishes on the Day of the Americas .

Today, countries such as Honduras , Guatemala, and Haiti declared this celebration a national holiday to promote the main goals of Pan-Americanism in their communities. While other countries belonging to the group dedicate themselves to carrying out a diffusion through their national political organisms.
