ASUU: Gbajabiamila attends Havard

On social media on Tuesday, some Nigerians voiced their displeasure over the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, returning to a university in the United States of America in the midst of the Academic Staff Union of Universities' ongoing strike action.

Nigeria's public universities have been closed for academic activity for 162 days.

ASUU had announced the start of industrial action on February 14, 2022, after the government had failed to meet several of the union's outstanding demands.

Gbajabiamila had tweeted on Tuesday using his verified Twitter account, @femigbaja, stating that he had returned to school at the Kennedy School, @havard, for a leadership course. One is never too old to learn, regardless of the quantity of grey hairs.

A Twitter user named @Santos commented on the situation by tweeting, "Sir? As the head of the legislative branch of the Nigerian government, what are your thoughts on the five-month ASUU strike in Nigeria? The college students have spent the last five months at home.

"Do you really believe that displaying images from your Harvard lecture class to us is the best option right now?"

Halidu Adamu, a different Twitter account, tweeted: "The irony.  These individuals have lost all feeling for anything. Tweeting about going to a foreign university's classes while ours at home are locked and have been for months. ASUU needs to get a grip since its current course of action is not productive.

"If universities in the USA were to go on strike, how would you be able to experience a working system?" tweeted Akintunde Babatunde, another Twitter user. Explore the area and observe how the fundamentals of a typical university operate. We can only hope that you'll come back and utilize your clout to improve our educational institutions.

According to The PUNCH, ASUU was on strike for nearly a year while Gbajabiamila was speaker of the house of representatives. In 2020, nine months, and about six months in 2022.
