Among the winners were Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Tems. Burna Boy triumphed over nominees from various countries to secure the prestigious 'Best International Act' award.
Tems, on the other hand, won the award for best collaboration for her feature on Future's hit song 'Wait For U'.
The live telecast revealed several other winners, including Latto, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, 21 Savage, Coco Jones, and Teyana "Spike Tey" Taylor. However, only a fraction of the categories was announced during the broadcast.
The show kicked off with an electrifying lineup of performers, featuring Lil Uzi Vert as the opening act. Davido, an Afrobeats sensation, and hip-hop pioneers The Sugarhill Gang also graced the stage, delivering unforgettable performances. Davido showcased songs from his latest album, captivating the audience with hits like 'Unavailable' and 'Feel'. International celebrities were seen joining in the fun and dancing along to the infectious beats and viral dance steps.
The event paid tribute to the late Biz Markie with a heartfelt rendition of his iconic track "Just a Friend". Warren G's performance of "Regulate" and tributes to Tupac Shakur and Takeoff by Migos members Quavo and Offset were among the standout moments of the night. Tyga later took the stage, treating the crowd to a memorable performance of "Rack City".
As the broadcast neared its end, a medley of Busta Rhymes' singles was performed in recognition of his lifelong success, followed by an all-star hip-hop tribute that left the audience in awe.
