💔 MOTHER, PLEASE WAKE UP 💔
EPISODE 1 — *THE LAST NIGHT*
---
The rain wouldn’t stop that night.
It fell like the heavens themselves were mourning — pouring heavily over the rusted roofs and muddy paths of the small village.
Inside a leaking hut that smelled of wet earth and smoke, a little boy named **Chika** sat beside his mother’s motionless body. His fingers, trembling and soaked with rainwater, clutched her cold hand.
“Mommy,” he whispered, shaking her gently, “you said you won’t sleep before me tonight.”
His small voice broke the silence. “Mommy, wake up now. You promised we would eat rice on my birthday.”
But she didn’t move.
The room stayed still — except for the rain tapping the roof like soft tears from heaven.
---
Just hours before, she had walked through that same rain barefoot, weak, and hungry, her clothes soaked and her body shivering. She worked at a construction site, mixing cement for fifty naira a day. She hadn’t eaten in two days, but when she saw a woman selling jollof rice by the roadside, her heart leaped.
She searched her pocket — three dirty coins.
It was enough for one small spoon.
She smiled painfully and said, “Give me one spoon… please.”
When she returned home, she placed the small plate before her son.
“Eat, my sunshine,” she said softly, wiping rain from his hair. “When I get paid next week, I’ll buy meat for you.”
He smiled, eating slowly, not knowing it was the last time she’d ever feed him.
---
Later that night, she wrapped her arms around him as the storm raged outside. Her breathing grew slower, weaker. She kissed his forehead and whispered,
“God, please… don’t let my son suffer the way I did.”
Her hands went cold moments later.
---
By morning, the rain had stopped.
The neighbors found Chika still sitting beside her, humming the lullaby she used to sing whenever thunder scared him.
When they tried to pull him away, he screamed,
“Don’t touch her! She’s just sleeping!”
And as they carried him off, his small voice trembled in the air:
“If she wakes up, tell her I’m waiting.”
