Our Globe is Warming Up

Global warming is one of the most pressing environmental issues we face today. It is caused by the human activities that increase the concentration of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, trapping more of the sun’s energy and driving up temperatures across the world. This warming has many devastating consequences such as increased sea level rise, extreme weather patterns, decreased Arctic ice cover, and increased global health risks.

It is crucial to take action to reduce global warming by curbing our emissions of greenhouse gases. We must transition to renewable energy sources from fossil fuels, reduce energy waste and develop technologies and strategies that will help us become energy-efficient.

One way to reduce emissions is to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and transition to clean renewable energy sources. Renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power, are non-polluting, inexhaustible sources of energy. By installing renewable energy systems, such as photovoltaic panels, or investing in energy efficiency measures, such as improved insulation and LEDs, we can reduce the need for fossil fuels and save money.

Another approach to curbing global warming is to reduce energy waste. Transport and energy generation account for almost two-thirds of global energy-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Efficiency measures in these areas, such as improved vehicle efficiency and fuel switch from coal to natural gas, can reduce energy demand and carbon dioxide. Also, energy waste can be reduced by investing in energy efficient appliances and lighting solutions.

To tackle global warming, it is also important to improve our land, forests and agricultural practices. Investing in sustainable forestry and land management can help reduce emissions and capture carbon in vegetation and soils. Plants absorb carbon dioxide and use it to build the complex molecules that form their leaves and branches. By growing trees, shrubs, and other vegetation, we can both reduce emissions and sequester carbon. Reducing food waste and transforming agricultural systems to more sustainable models are other approaches which can help contain global warming.

Finally, international agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, are needed to reduce global emissions. Governments signing the Paris Agreement made individual commitments to meet emissions reduction targets and reduce the global temperature rise below 2 degrees Celsius. However, further steps are needed to limit the severity of global warming.

In conclusion, global warming is an urgent crisis and requires swift and drastic measures for mitigation. Reducing dependence on fossil fuel energy, improving energy efficiency, adopting sustainable land and agricultural approaches, and international agreements are all needed to contain global warming now and for the future.

I believe to reduce global warming starts with me and you. It will be possible if we first do away with ignorance, among the people.
