What is really lawful to do on the sabath? what was the sabath meant for? the sabath was the seventh day in the story of creation. It was the day the biblical account make us understand that God rested from his creativities and hallows.
It later became the day for worship, a day set apart for Yahweh. The intention was for the people to spend time with Yahweh on this day. So that their intention could be focused on him.
However, with time, the interpretation of this law became so unwieldy and cumbersome that instead of the law coming to the help of man,the law became the albatross on the neck of the people.
This was the trend our Lord wanted to stop. Or Lord in today's gospel made the point that the law was made for man,not man for the law. He also affirmed his lordship even of the sabath
(Prayer) Lord make us truly devoted to you. Amen
