Once upon a time, there were two best friends, Rachel and Michael. Rachel was a gentle and caring person who was always putting others first and was very loyal to her friendships. Michael was a charmer who had a big heart but was always looking for new experiences.
The two had an unspoken understanding between them that neither one of them wanted a romantic relationship with each other. Despite this, they were inseparable and spent most of their time together, making memories that would last forever. Everything seemed perfect until one day when a new person entered the picture - Anna.
Anna was the girl of Michael's dreams and an enamor with her was instantaneous. He was smitten and it was obvious to Rachel. Although she was happy for her best friend, Rachel's heart sank as she realized that she was beginning to have romantic feelings for Michael too. Torn between her loyalty to him as a best friend and her newly discovered feelings, she kept her feelings hidden.
Meanwhile, as Michael and Anna's relationship blossomed, a demonic triangle was formed. Rachel felt her pain increase knowing that she was being forced to stay in the sidelines and watch two of the most important people in her life fall in love with each other. She began to feel depressed and heartbroken, knowing that she could never have the same relationship with Michael.
Noticing her friend's despair, Michael asked Rachel for a special favor - to be his best man at his wedding to Anna. Rachel, feeling heartbroken and betrayed, wanted to say no but eventually agreed since she had made a promise to Michael. She managed to choke out a "Yes" and watched in agony as the two exchanged their wedding vows.
The tragic love triangle story ended with Rachel feeling more alone, jealous, and heartbroken than ever. She had been willing to suppress her feelings out of loyalty, yet her best friend had gone on to marry the woman of his dreams without ever knowing. Though Rachel was happy that Michael was married, a part of her still ached with the knowledge that she'd never be able to tell him how she really felt and that she'd never have him for her own.
