Xiaomi is shaking up the flagship smartphone game with the launch of its Xiaomi 17 series, directly competing against Apple's forthcoming iPhone 17. Xiaomi 17 poses a real threat in the front of innovation with massive battery upgrades; an innovative rear display; and of course, the top specifications.
More Capacity, Longer Battery Life
In any case, battery capacity is a good boast for the Xiaomi 17 series.
- The Xiaomi 17 houses a 7,000mAh battery-that is almost double of the existing iPhones' capacity.
- The Xiaomi 17 Pro and Pro Max house 6,300mAh and 7,500mAh batteries, respectively; both of them have 120W fast charging.
In contrast, the iPhone 17 is expected to feature a modest upgrade, rumored to remain below 4,000mAh. Xiaomi probably aims to win all the power users and endurance buffs.
Magic Rear Screen: gimmick or game-changer?
They all have a rear display on all three Xiaomi 17 models called the Magic Back Screen. This second screen can be used for notifications, as a viewfinder for selfies with the rear camera, or to display custom widgets or animations. While Apple goes on developing and perfecting Dynamic Island and front stuff, a back screen innovation could certainly allure creators and multitaskers. Flagship Specs Meet Gaming Ambitions
The Xiaomi 17 Pro and Max versions, powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite, offer incredible performance. Xiaomi even released a clear Game Boy-style shell so you can convert the phone into a retro handheld gaming console. Apple's A19 is expected to have the upper hand from an optimization standpoint, but Apple seems to be yet uninterested in any gaming accessories.
Thoughts
Apple has traditionally shunned some aspects of smartphone hardware and software that led Xiaomi to target those very areas with the Xiaomi 17 series, in particular the battery, customization, and experimenting with new hardware. In terms of ecosystem refinement, the iPhone still stands out, however, power and ingenuity are what Xiaomi brings to the table.
