On June 9, 1963, in Owensboro, Kentucky, John Christopher "Johnny" Depp II was born to civil engineer John Christopher Depp and waitress Betty Sue Palmer (née Wells). His upbringing was in Florida. When he was 15 years old, he quit school and fronted many music-garage bands, including one called "The Kids." He accepted a job as a ballpoint pen salesperson after being married to Lori A. Depp in order to provide for their needs. He met actor Nicolas Cage during a trip to Los Angeles, California, with his wife, who encouraged him to pursue acting. Depp shares these two kids with his previous long-term companion, French singer/actress Vanessa Paradis. He wed actress/producer Amber Heard in 2015, and they later divorced.
