This event took place in the eastern part of today's Nigeria in west Africa. It's a part of the story of a great king(LORD OKOLI IJOMA) whom the coming of the Europeans to west Africa halted him from conquering the whole of Eastern and even southern Nigeria. In the 1900s he embarked on a war with his maternal people from awka,a war that made monkey a sacred animal to the Awka people because it was monkeys fleeing the advance of the war hungry Lord Okoli Ijoma and his Eda army that alerted the awka people of the siege that was to swallow their land. Awka made a truce after that war and okoli ijoma returned home with a promise never to invade the kingdom again. Till date that truce has not been broken and the bond between Okoli ijoma's kingdom which is known as Ndikelionwu in Eastern Nigeria and Awka is still kept.
